Step 1

Flight Information

Mumbai to Bali direct and connecting options — what to expect and exactly where to book.

🇮🇳 Mumbai
⟶
🇮🇩 Bali (DPS)
₹35,000 – ₹55,000
Return per person · Varies by season & airline
Prices depend heavily on the season, travel dates, and how far in advance you book. December–January and July–August tend to be pricier. Book 2–3 months ahead for the best deals.
🌐 Skyscanner 🌐 Trip.com
💡

Pro Tip: Book at least 2–3 months in advance. Use Skyscanner's "Whole Month" view to spot the cheapest dates instantly.

Budget
Best Time to Book Flights

Flights from Mumbai to Denpasar (DPS) operate via Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or directly depending on the airline. AirAsia, IndiGo and Singapore Airlines are popular choices.

Budget (Off-peak)₹35,000–40,000
Mid-range (Normal)₹42,000–50,000
Peak season (Jul/Dec)₹52,000–65,000+
Step 2

Visa Information

Indian passport holders have two simple options. Online is strongly recommended.

A
Online Visa (Recommended)
Apply a few days before travel on the official Indonesia e-Visa portal. This saves you 1–2 hours of queue at Bali Airport immigration — absolutely worth doing.
~₹3,000 per person
B
Visa on Arrival (VOA) at Bali Airport
Available directly at Ngurah Rai International Airport. Pay USD at the counter and collect your visa stamp. Convenient but expect queues — especially during peak travel months.
~₹3,000 per person
✓
What to Carry
Valid passport (6+ months), return flight ticket, hotel booking confirmation, USD cash for VOA. Keep digital copies of all documents on your phone.
💡

Strong Recommendation: Always apply online to avoid long immigration queues. The cost is the same; the time saved is massive — especially with family.

Step 3

Travel Insurance

Always take a good travel insurance policy. Non-negotiable for international travel.

Insurance
Recommended: TATA AIG
Comprehensive, reliable and well-recognised internationally. Covers medical emergencies, flight cancellations, lost baggage and delayed flights. Very important for families.

Getting Around

Transport in Bali

Grab, Gojek and private drivers cover most of your transport needs. Here's what to use when.

Mobile App
Grab & Gojek Apps
Download both before you land in Bali. Works like Ola/Uber — metered, safe and convenient for shorter trips around Kuta and Seminyak. Use the app, not street taxis.
Install before arriving: Grab + Gojek
Car
Private Car + Driver
The best option for families. A private driver takes you to all spots, waits, and is far more economical than multiple app rides. Highly recommended for day trips to Ubud, temples, etc.
Full Day: 600k–900k IDR (~₹3,500–4,500)
Half Day: 400k–500k IDR (~₹2,500)
Scooter
Scooter Rental
Popular with solo travellers and couples. Cheaper than hiring a driver. Drive on the left — Bali traffic can be busy in Kuta/Seminyak. International driving permit recommended.

Mr. Aan from Bugis Bali Tour offers reliable car and ferry services. Personally recommended — excellent for families needing full-day drivers and inter-island transfers.

In Bali Airport: Telkomsel Prepaid SIM — best local network

From India (Matrix SIM):
₹1,000 → 10 GB for 10 days
₹1,300 → Unlimited data

Honest Advice

What You Can Skip

Save your time and energy. These places sound good on paper but aren't always worth it.

🏝️
Both East + West Nusa Penida
Kelingking Beach and Diamond Beach require extremely risky trekking. Not worth it for most families. Each side needs a separate full day.
✅ Better: Spend an extra relaxing day on Gili Island instead.
🛕
All the Famous Temples
Uluwatu, Pura Lempuyang, Ulun Danu and Tanah Lot are beautiful but very crowded with long photography queues. Time-consuming for families.
✅ Better: Pick just one temple that's most accessible on your route.
💦
Kanto Lampo Waterfall
Very crowded almost every day. The experience doesn't match the hype when packed with tourists. Go to Goa Raja or Tibumana instead.
✅ Better: Goa Raja or Tibumana waterfall — beautiful & less crowded.
🌋
Mount Batur Jeep Tour
Requires waking at 3 AM. If it's cloudy — which is common — the famous sunrise view is completely blocked. High risk of disappointment.
✅ Better: Use that day for a relaxed Ubud morning instead.

Insider Knowledge

Important Tips & Key Points

Things you only know after actually going to Bali — so you don't have to learn the hard way.

✅
Carry extra clothes — ATV, rafting, waterfalls and water sports all involve getting very wet and/or muddy.
✅
ATV packages usually include snacks or lunch (fried rice or noodles) — you won't need to arrange food separately for that activity.
✅
Alas Harum is the best swing location — better views and a more scenic backdrop than many other swing parks.
✅
Carry USD from India and exchange at reliable counters in Kuta. You'll get significantly better rates than at the airport or through hotels.
✅
Direct cruise from Gili to Nusa Penida leaves around 9 AM — plan your overnight stay on Gili accordingly if taking Option 2 itinerary.
✅
Stay one night near Padang Bai Port if catching an early ferry to Gili. Budget hotels available from ₹1,500 — far better than a 4 AM drive from Kuta.
✅
Kids above 16/18 visiting clubs should carry a digital copy of their passport on their phone — some clubs ask for ID proof.
✅
Negotiate snorkelling prices directly at the Gili port — you'll often get a private boat for close to the sharing price.
✅
Buy Universal Travel Adapters before leaving India — available on Amazon India for ₹100–300. Carry 2 for families.
